Feel good about yourself:  Give blood

Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Herron Hall

Our blood banks are in need of all types of blood.  Please consider this as your gift for life.  Come to our blood drive and donate.  We welcome our “regulars” and those who will be “first time donors.”

All donors must present a signed or picture ID and know their Social Security number.

BEFORE DONATING

Get a good night’s sleep.  Have a good breakfast or lunch.  Eat iron-rich foods—beans, read meat, fish, poultry, iron-fortified cereals, raisins, prunes, etc.  Drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate.  Avoid tea, coffee, or other caffeinated beverages.  Avoid fatty foods such as hamburger, fries ice cream.

Relax.  Wear clothing with sleeves that can be raised above the elbow.  Show the staff any “good veins” that have been used successfully in the past to draw blood.

Take the time to enjoy a snack and a drink afterwards.  Immediately after donating, re-hydrate by drinking plenty of fluids over the next 24-48 hours.  Avoid strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting for about five hours.  If you feel light-headed after donating, lie down, preferably with feet elevated, until the feeling passes.  Enjoy the good feeling that comes with knowledge that you may have saved as many as three lives!

Kindly consider posting this bulletin notice on your refrigerator as a reminder.
