Brief Description – Beyond Cornerstone Service Ministry is a response to meeting the needs of the hungry. Our group supports the work of Mother Theresa’s Missionary Sisters of Charity at St. Augustine’s Soup Kitchen in Newark. Currently, visits take place monthly. A two person team volunteers each month to coordinate a visit. Coordinators decide the menu, shop for food and identify what help is needed from other ministry members. We have teams dedicated to supplying bottled water and providing much needed supplies such as bags and plastic food containers. All is done with a strong spirit of fellowship and respect for the guests. The ministry is financed through cash donations, primarily from individuals and families. We also enjoy the financial support of several of our parish’s other organizations.
Meeting Dates – We meet several times a year in the Parish Center Watch for the announcement in the bulletin.
How can someone join? – The Soup Kitchen Ministry meets as a group several times a year to plan and reorganize as needed. Our core group of facilitators invites all parishioners to attend and to participate in whatever capacity they can. We are constantly evolving to make the best use of our resources and to respond most effectively to the changing needs of the Sisters and their guests. You may participate in this Ministry by responding to our bulletin notices. You are encouraged to attend our planning meetings. You may donate to this Ministry by writing a check to St. Thomas Parish—please note on the check that it is for the SOUP KITCHEN. Mark the envelope “Beyond Cornerstone service soup kitchen— ATTENTION: Alicia.” Your donation may be dropped off at the Parish center or placed in the Sunday collection basket.
