Rev. Lawrence J. Fama
Pastor
Father Larry joined St. Thomas as Pastor in 2019. He was born in Newark where his family moved three times (all three houses were on the same street!) and eventually settled in a house right across from the hospital in which he was born. Fr. Larry attended Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, then majored in Political Science and Urban Studies at Rutgers University in Newark — where he changed his major at least seven times. For as long as he could remember, Fr. Larry always wanted to be a priest. He entered Immaculate Conception Seminary in 1987 and was ordained on May 30, 1992, at the age of 29, to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Newark.
Fr. Larry has served at St. Philomena in Livingston (1992-1998), St. Mary’s in Rutherford (1998-1999), and St. Helen’s in Westfield as a parochial vicar (1999-2007). He was most recently the pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood (2007-2019).
